General information about International Students
Nowadays, the higher education area has an increasing tendency to internationalize. With the increasing number of international students in the world, national and international strategies gain importance and internationalization is inevitable in higher education. According to the OECD, in 2012, 4.5 million students worldwide received university education in another country outside their home country. This figure is expected to increase to 8 million in 2022.

In parallel with the developments in the world, Turkish Higher Education is experiencing great developments. Many measures are taken under the leadership of the Council of Higher Education and new processes are taking place. Turkey offers new opportunities and facilities for foreign students in every sense. Thus, Turkey is a new center of attraction for foreign students. The process which started around 16 thousand in the beginning of 2000s is to continue with 125 thousand students in 2018. Turkish higher education shows a remarkable increase with an increase of about 785%.

According to the 2016/17 year of data, the most international students in Turkey are studying at İstanbul University, Anadolu University and Gaziantep University.
These universities are followed by Uludağ University in fourth place and Sakarya University in fifth place. When the 2018 data are examined, an increase in almost all universities in Turkey is observed.
Considering most provinces where international students in Turkey, respectively, of the provinces of Istanbul, Ankara and Eskişehir is understood that. These provinces are followed by Gaziantep in the fourth and İzmir in the fifth.
According to the data, university-based university preference, among thousands of university programs, medical (Health Sciences) ,law program and, computer engineering areas are the most preferred areas.
